I had the privilege of attending the Women who WP meet up in Fountain Valley, CA.
While this was my first time attending, this was Women who WP’s 3rd meet up and had 14 wonderful women show up. We had everyone from developers to women who used WordPress for the very first time that day.
The room was just big enough for all of us. Food was from StoneFire Grill (yum!) but really the highlight of the evening was the conversations.
Suzette Frank presented, she drove all the way from LA to be there (3hr drive with traffic!!). She shared her WordPress story with all of us. Not only is she super talented and fascinating but also incredibly nice. Her perspective was really cool to hear and she is just such a fountain of knowledge. I had seen Suzette speak at a WordCamp before, but I didn’t realize was that she has spoken at SO MANY WordCamps! Which is an issue that I struggle with, and it something that is a goal for me to do more of. So hearing her perspective and tips on that subject was incredibly insightful and valuable.
I think my favorite part of the evening, was when we went around the room, and everyone talked about 1 thing they learned this past week about WordPress, or something that they wanted to learn about WordPress (for our beginners).
From a Happiness Engineer perspective- when the beginners were sharing their stores. I just loved hearing how they were interacting with their sites. Several already had the WordPress app downloaded and loved writing on the go. Others were struggling with where to find support and knowing which plugins to use. Hearing their roadblocks was fascinating for me, and came from a really interesting perspective.
The coolest part was the atmosphere of the room. It was super welcoming and very social. I already can’t wait for next month’s meet up!
Huge thank you to Jen Miller, Elizabeth, and Bridget for organizing the meet up. Also it was great getting to know everyone who attended.
If you’re a women who works with WordPress or is interested in getting started- you should totally join us and attend next month! 🙂
How neat! I might have to attend one of these sometime 🙂
